Birth Certificate Request

Summary

MyGateway says certified copies of birth certificates may be requested online at a cost of BSD $10.00.

The public MyGateway service text says the online request is for Bahamian citizens age 18 or older who are applying for themselves. The Registrar General FAQ also says immediate family members may request birth, marriage, and death certificates if they can prove the relationship. Because those two public descriptions are not identical, use the online self-service path for your own record and confirm with the department before requesting someone else's.

Who This Applies To

  • People requesting their own certified birth certificate through MyGateway
  • Immediate family members only if the Registrar General accepts the relationship proof for that request

Supporting Documents

  • Valid government-issued ID
  • Proof of relationship if you are requesting on behalf of an immediate family member

Fees And Timing

  • Certified copy fee: BSD $10.00
  • Registrar General FAQ timing for birth, death, and marriage certificate requests: two business days

How To Apply

  1. Open the Registrar General service area in MyGateway.
  2. Choose the birth certificate request service.
  3. Complete the online application and follow the payment instructions.
  4. If you are requesting for someone else, be ready to show proof of relationship if the department asks for it.

When To Escalate To A Human

  • You are requesting a birth certificate for someone other than yourself.
  • You are not sure whether your relationship qualifies.
  • The record details do not match the department's records.
  • You are under 18 or do not meet the online-service conditions shown in MyGateway.
