Work Permit Renewal

Summary

The Department of Immigration says non-Bahamians who are already authorized to work in The Bahamas for more than 90 days may renew that authorization through the annual work permit renewal process.

Main Requirements

  • BSD $200.00 non-refundable processing fee
  • Letter of request addressed to the Director of Immigration
  • Renewal or extension application form
  • Original medical certificate dated within 30 days before submission
  • Original police certificate issued within six months and covering five years of residence for applicants age 14 and older
  • Two current passport photographs
  • Applicant passport bio page copy
  • Employer or sponsor passport bio page copy
  • Letter from the National Insurance Board confirming that contributions are up to date
  • Copy of the applicant's previous work permit
  • Employer or sponsor National Insurance Card copy for single employers
  • Certificate of Good Standing for the Port Authority in Grand Bahama, where applicable
  • Valid business licence, certificate of incumbency, or certificate of incorporation for the employer or sponsor

Important Official Notes

  • Accompanying dependents should apply for Permit to Reside.
  • The Department says labour certificates and newspaper advertisements remain important to the renewal process.
  • Effective September 1, 2025, Immigration Fee Scale 8 annual work permit applications must include a Labour Certificate for new permits and renewals, and every two years thereafter.
  • Foreign documents need certified English translations with the required postage stamp.

When To Escalate To A Human

  • The employer, sponsor, or job details have changed since the previous permit.
  • National Insurance contributions are not up to date.
  • The previous permit has expired or there is another status gap.
  • You think the application belongs under a new permit, reconsideration, or another immigration category instead of a straightforward renewal.
