Driver's Licence Replacement Or Duplicate

Summary

The Road Traffic Department says duplicate licences are issued for persons replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged driver's licence.

Who This Applies To

Applicants must be the holder of a valid driver's licence.

Supporting Documents

  • Completed Research Information Form
  • Police report
  • National identification such as a passport or voter's card
  • For non-Bahamians: passport and Immigration documents permitting residence in The Bahamas

Process

  1. Obtain a police report from a police station in the relevant community.
  2. Complete the Research Information Form.
  3. Submit the form and supporting documents to the Driver's Licence Unit.
  4. RTD researches the driver's licence record.
  5. Pay the cashier once the record is found.
  6. After verification, the Photo Clerk updates and prints the duplicate licence.

The RTD says the duplicate licence is issued for the same period as the previous licence.

Fee And Timing

  • Duplicate licence fee: BSD $15.00
  • Same-day issuance if all relevant documents are provided

Deadline

The RTD page says there are no deadlines for this service.

When To Escalate To A Human

  • The previous driver's licence was already expired and you may need a renewal instead.
  • RTD cannot locate the licence record.
  • You need a correction, name change, or category change rather than a simple duplicate.
  • You cannot provide the police report or residency documents required for the request.
